Different Methods to Dispose of Your Waste

Do you know how dump collectors dispose of garbage? You may not be aware, but there are different ways of waste disposal, some of which are unfamiliar to us. The following describes the methods of solid waste disposal and the process of how they work.

Composting

Composting is naturally inclined disposal of waste. Not, only that it’s done without any extra effort, but it also provides valuable organic fertilizer. Bacteria and fungi tend to break down the waste into simpler substances. In other words, waste composting speeds up the decay of waste. After breaking down the waste into a smaller form, this leave nutrients. It is then returned to the ground, which is helpful for plant growth.

Some waste that could undergo this method include vegetable peelings, grass, leaves, fruit waste, eggshells, paper, dust, and animal hair.

Sanitary landfill

This is the process of isolating the waste from the surroundings until it’s safe. Sanitary landfills come in sections called cells. These cells comprise compacted clay and durable synthetic plastics of various purposes. Trash is dumped inside these cells by the use of compacting tractors. When full, they are immediately covered with 6 inches of soil to prevent massive contamination, waste fires, and stinky odors. After several years, owners may transform the landfills into public parks or agricultural areas.

Sanitary landfilling, however, comes with disadvantages; for instance, shortage of land disposal sites, illegal dumping, and its negative effect on the environment and human health.

Waste incineration

Waste incineration is a process done in a combustion chamber wherein the waste is burned at a temperature that reaches 2,000°F (1,093°C). It is done when landfills are no longer available. The heat energy produced is used to boil water in a special tube. It will then release steam and generates electricity. This process of waste disposal generates usable electricity.

Even so, this method of waste disposal also has a negative impact on the environment. Air pollution from the fire may be released outside and spread toxins. Special neutralizing agents are responsible for the gas filtration before it is released, to prevent air contamination due to the disposal of chemical substances.

Pyrolysis

Pyrolysis is like waste incineration in the sense that they both use heat to dispose of waste matter. This is done at a temperature of more than 430°C for industrial waste, and 450°C to 550°C for agricultural waste. Pyrolysis alone is a thermal decomposition of waste in the absence of oxygen. Pyrolysis produces charcoals, activated carbon, methanol, and useful substances such as combustible gas.

These are the different ways of disposing of waste. It is your choice to decide how you are going to deal with it. Nonetheless, you can consider companies specializing in junk removal in Philadelphia to help you dispose of your waste. You will no longer have to think about where to bring your junk. But always remember that proper disposal should be a priority in a world already suffering from the impact of excessive waste.
