Mini-Cheetah bots now taking over

On the 10th of November 2019, through the team’s demonstration on campus, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) launched its recent “mini cheetah” robots. In front of the students, MIT proudly showcased its craft, characterizing the newest trend in technology nowadays.

The biomimetic lab’s director of MIT, Sangbae Kim, revealed that these bots are being used for extensive research that needs flexibility. The invention gives you the basic idea of how bots are gradually changing most fields of work today like studies demonstrated in

The Human-Like Characteristics

The students inside the campus are impressed on how these dog-sized mini cheetah robots perform different human activities like doing flips, kicking a soccer ball, and coordinating human movements. Weighing only 20 lbs, the robot is a smaller version of Cheetah 3 that was first introduced in March 2019. Since Cheetah 3 is an integrated invention, the team of researchers found a way to redesign the modular motors by adding three to four arms.

MIT already developed an experiment a decade ago and called it “Super Mini Cheetah.” The public knew the invention, and later became a “Mini Cheetah.” The robot’s innovative motor design is a Mason jar lid-size that’s composed of a set of coils and produces magnetic fields. To allow a huge range of movements, the legs are supported with three motors that are very useful for quick and dynamic execution of motions such as 360 backflip. It creates a high impact on the ground without even breaking a limb.

To test its ability to run, the engineers ran the robots through the ground of Killina Court and to MIT’s Pappalardo Laboratory’s hallway. In conclusion, for the experiment, the researcher said that the mini cheetah robots could run in both environments for approximated 5 miles per hour.

Its physical attributes have a Lego-like resemblance and a four-legged powerpack that allow them to do upside-down and right-side-up movements and even backflip. These capabilities justify that artificial intelligence machines are now moving forward.

Much Like Legos

The researchers fully equipped the robots with minimal-cost electric motors, making each limb changeable in case of breaks. According to the developer Benjamin Katz, any part of the robots can be easily put together like Legos. Katz also stated that the robustness and the smoothness of the experimentation were the main reasons why they built mini cheetah bots.

The Bot’s Locomotion

Katz observed the movement and the running speed of the machine. He concluded that the joints of each bot could spin three times faster. Later in his observation, he evaluates that it could run about twice as fast as it could.

One of the researchers who are also working in Sangbae Kim’s lab said that the invention provides engineers an immense opportunity to meticulously check out the maneuvers and algorithms to a much more dynamic machine that is not accessible to them.

Inventors are aiming to exhibit the mini cheetah’s capabilities at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). With this effort, they are planning to launch more of these AI machines in the following years. In the future, more laboratories will loan out more of these bots.

Demonstrations of robot locomotion is a massive part of scientific pursuits, emphasizing the progress of AI machines. In spite of some negative feedback to its development, robots could give a convenient lifestyle, save anyone from hassling work that is beyond human capability, and even rescue lives.

It is beyond entertainment why they invented mini cheetahs. The team is hoping that soon, it can respond to calamities and military emergencies, and even assist firefighters and recovery missions team.

The Education of a College President memoir by Dr. Killian praises the innovative action of MIT, saying, “No accolade which has come to me in my lifetime has moved me as deeply as this action by the MIT Corporation.”

The demonstration of the MIT to test 9 new mini cheetah bots illustrates how artificial intelligence nowadays are now taking over to improve various aspects of human lives. Now that the research team gives a few examples of these innovative robots, most of the witnesses are aiming that laboratories in different parts of any country will also loan out this essential AI.

This type of innovation is creating a massive step for a possible utopian society in future generations. With different new trends, the technology is now running extra miles for technological and scientific pursuits. This allows people to live in a convenient mode of living.

There are some fields of work beyond human capabilities. One of them is obtaining millions of data in one day. This is when the role of robotics enters. It can simplify the job and can give you the fastest approach for providing accurate information. It is undeniable how we so much depend on artificial intelligence in producing an output. Still, everything needs a human effort to interpret the details. Mini cheetah robots even need humans to function fully.
